A long-standing justice gap in the Oshikoto Region is beginning to close, as the Omuthiya Periodical Magistrate's Court, which commenced last month, continues making an impact.

Chairperson of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Youth, Civic Relations and Community Development Marlayn Mbakera has suggested that the National Youth Development Fund roll out grants in addition to loans and review the selection criteria for applications.

The Ebenezer Royal Primary School, a private school at Omuthiya, was closed down after seven counts of alleged rape involving minors at its hostel. 

The reports surfaced after one of the minors opened up to her teachers about the acts last Wednesday.

Three decades ago, Omuthiya was more of a village, with limited services and infrastructure.

Today, it has transformed into the capital of the Oshikoto Region with established residential areas reflecting its rapid urban growth.

The Oshikoto Directorate of Education, during this year's regional annual Career Fair, engaged 115 schools within eight circuits.

The Career Fair Roadshow, which commenced in June, benefitted between 20 and 600 learners per school in the region.

Oshikoto Governor Sacky Kathindi, during his State of Region Address at Omuthiya, identified water provision, agriculture, network connectivity, education, roads, health, and security and justice as areas of priority.
