Namibian Association of Sign Language Interpreters launched in Windhoek

A group of young people have launched the Namibian Association of Sign Language Interpreters to advocate for the right to sign language interpretation and accessibility to information.

The Namibian Association of Sign Language Interpreters (NASLI) is registered with the Ministry of Health and Social Services.

The association is aimed at developing and implementing policies and guidelines for sign language interpreters, providing information to interpreters, providing interpretation services for the deaf community, and providing training in this regard.

Boxing Development Tournament Continues with Part 2 at Mix Settlement

The highly anticipated Part 2 of the Boxing Development Tournament, organized by the Golden Boxing Fitness Academy, is all set to take place this Saturday at the Mix Settlement in Windhoek.

Namibians to march in support of Palestine tomorrow

The Swapo Party will lead a march in Windhoek in solidarity with the people of Palestine tomorrow.

Swapo Secretary for Information and Mobilisation Hilma Nicanor made the announcement at a media briefing.


The Israel-Palestinian conflict has claimed thousands of lives and displaced more than a million people.


The march will start from Zoo Park at 08h00 to United Nations offices, where they will hand in a petition requesting a peaceful resolution.

7th National ICT Summit kicks off

Preparations for the 7th National ICT Summit were underway this afternoon at the Mercure Hotel in Windhoek.

The three-day summit is expected to kick off tomorrow.

The summit, which is expected to bring together hundreds of ICT experts and institutions, is being held under the theme "Re-thinking cybersecurity investment to secure the digital economy and its opportunities".

The summit will create a platform for the ICT industry to discuss trends and challenges facing the industry.

Keep education flexible and inclusive - Prof. Katjavivi

The Speaker of the National Assembly says there is a need to ensure that the education systems remain open, flexible, accessible, and inclusive in order to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4, which aims to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education for all.

Professor Katjavivi, speaking during the second Regional Model Symposium held in Windhoek, noted that open universities are essential for providing accessible, high-quality education and fostering innovation.

He, however, says universities and open learning often face resource constraints.

American cultural center library closes

After three decades of providing service to the Namibian people, the American Cultural Centre Library in Windhoek shut its doors with a colourful farewell.

The farewell aims at celebrating the US-Namibia relationship built through access to information and training.

The library, which was located in the Windhoek CBD's Sanlam Building, has been a source of information for many in the past years, both through books for leisure or academic reading and computer usage.

Farm Location in Windhoek needs more taps

Residents of Farm Location on the western side of Windhoek are in need of more water points.

The residents say the one tap in the area is not sufficient, as they have to walk long distances and scramble in line for the only tap available.

Resident of Farm Location, Lukas Lukas, said, "We really need water; we came to this location a long time ago. We have been seeking water taps for some time. However, when the municipality responded, they only gave us these taps at one point, which is still a distance for many people in this area."

TKCS office inaugurated

The Ministers of Transport for Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa have inaugurated the office of the Trans Kalahari Corridor Secretariat (TKCS) in Windhoek.

This came after the three countries signed an agreement on the development and management of the Kalahari Corridor in 2003.

The TKCS was established and housed in Windhoek, and as a stipulation for hosting the Secretariat, the Namibian government is obliged to provide an office to be used as its headquarters.

SAPP and MSB Market Access Guide launched

The Modified Single Buyer module and the integration of the Southern Africa Power Pool electricity market will offer new opportunities for independent private producers.

It is also expected to unlock the potential of renewable energy in the region.

This was revealed at the launch of the SAPP and MSB Market Access Guide in Windhoek on Monday.

The MSB Model was introduced as a new market platform in 2019, with the aim of gradually replacing the current Single Buyer Model of power purchase only by NamPower.
