Overtaking in blind spots, driving under the influence of alcohol, and speeding are some of the major issues contributing to road accidents in the Erongo Region.

The Board of the Roads Authority has decided to extend the employment contract of Chief Executive Officer Conrad Lutombi for another three years.

The three-year extension is also to allow for the recruitment process to commence timely and facilitate a smooth handover once Lutombi retires.

The joint festive safety intervention operation was launched at the Oshiko roadblock in the Oshana Region. 

The operation organised by the Roads Authority is aimed at checking on the readiness of motorists for the upcoming festive season.

The campaign, known as "Operation Thunder", is a joint venture between the Katima Mulilo Town Council, the Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA), the police, the Walvisbay Corridor Group and the Roads Authority.

The Roads Authority launched the nationwide clean-up campaign of the national road reserves at Rundu in the Kavango East Region on Thursday.
