The Minister of Works and Transport, John Mutorwa, fears Fly Namibia might close its route from Eros Airport to Rundu.

This comes after his recent experience on a trip to Rundu as the only passenger on the plane.

John Mutorwa says the number of passengers flying from Eros Airport to Rundu has been minimal, and this can be controlled.

The Roads Authority (RA) has inaugurated its first-ever NaTIS Mobile Vehicle Testing Station at Rehoboth.

The N$6 million mobile testing facility will visit all the regions.

The Minister of Works and Transport, John Mutorwa, says the testing vehicle will reach remote areas where such services are nonexistent and eliminate the long distances that people have to travel for services.

The facility offers services such as testing vehicles for roadworthiness.

Mutorwa was speaking at Nkurenkuru when he handed over the ministry's maintenance functions to the Kavango West Regional Council.

Mutorwa stressed that public policy documents should be shared with the people so that everyone understands the functions of the council.

Mutorwa emphasized that infrastructure development acts as a catalyst for economic growth, social progress, and plays a significant role in enhancing global competitiveness and attracting investments.

The Works and Transport Minister said this during a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the commencement of construction of the Tsandi-Omugulugwoombashe road, also known as District Road 3633, in the Omusati Region.

There has been a 42% reduction in road fatalities over the past festive season, between December and January this year.

This was revealed by the Chairperson of the National Road Safety Council, Eliphas !Owos-Oab at the opening of the 8th Annual Road Safety Conference in Otjiwarongo.

Key stakeholders in the sub-sector are meeting in Otjiwarongo to review the implementation of key strategic pillars.

!Owos-Oab says the support and involvement of private sector organizations in road safety have greatly contributed to the reduction of fatal accidents on the roads.

Of all the country's 14 regions, Kavango West is the only one without a fully-fledged Namibian Traffic Information System (NaTIS) office. 

As a result, residents travel 130 kilometers to Rundu for services.

At the moment, the NaTIS office at Nkurenkuru only offers learners' license tests, renewals of driving licenses, registration and licensing of vehicles, and personalized number plates.

During a meeting at Nkurenkuru with the Minister of Works and Transport, John Mutorwa, he urged that NaTIS services be brought closer to the people.

The Minister of Works and Transport called members of the Trans Kalahari Corridor Management Committee to speed up the inauguration of the Trans Kalahari Corridor's headquarters this year.

John Mutorwa made this call during his visit to the Trans-Kalahari Corridor Secretariat in Windhoek.

The visit was aimed at familiarizing him with progress on the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding between Namibia, Botswana, and South Africa, which was signed in 2003, on the development and management of the Trans-Kalahari Corridor.

The Namibian government is finalizing its internship framework program to offer more opportunities to graduates from universities, colleges, and vocational training institutions.

This was said by the Minister of Works and Transport, John Mutorwa, at the awarding of certificates to graduates of the Namibia Council for Architects and Quantity Surveyors.

Mutorwa encouraged the architects to ensure that every building they work on serves a purpose.

The Minister of Works and Transport says Namibia needs to upgrade its transport infrastructure to attract more investors as well as to be competitive globally.

John Mutorwa emphasized this at the inauguration of the B2 truck port service station at Arandis.

Mutorwa says the Erongo Region contributes immensely to the country's economy because of its large port in Walvis Bay, significant uranium mines, gold, marble, and lithium deposits, tourism, and the fishing sectors.
