Police report an increase in cases of housebreaking in Kavango East Region

Cases of housebreaking, particularly in schools and churches are on the increase in the Kavango East Region.

Deputy Commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu revealed this during the display of goods confiscated at Rundu, mainly stationary from schools.

An adult male and a Grade 10 learner were arrested after they were found in possession of the stolen goods in Sikanduko Informal Settlement. 

DC Kanyetu says the extended Boots on the Ground Operation is bearing fruit as the number of street robberies has reduced dramatically. 

Health Ministry confirms swine flu outbreak

The Ministry of Health and Social Services has recorded 54 confirmed cases of the Human Influenza Virus, commonly known as swine flu, out of 190 suspected cases country-wide.

The cases were mostly reported in the Otjozondjupa Region, where 24 out of 37 suspected cases tested positive; the Khomas Region, where 24 out of 138 suspected cases were positive; and the Kavango East Region, where six out of 15 suspected cases were positive.

According to Health Executive Director, Ben Nangombe, some of the cases date back to July and were initially tested for COVID-19.

Namibia records 10 800 cases of Malaria and 30 deaths since January this year

Namibia has recorded 10,800 cases of malaria and 30 deaths since January this year. The national indoor residual spraying campaign has thus been launched at Okongo in Ohangwena, one of the regions vulnerable to malaria.

In 2021, the country recorded 13,732 cases of malaria.

So far this year, cases are lower with 6,696 having originated from the Zambezi, followed by Ohangwena with 1080, Kavango East with 864, and Kavango West with 648 cases.
