Members of a local neighborhood watch at Walvis Bay discovered the skeletal remains of a person in the desert east of the harbor town.

Communities have been urged to join neighborhood watch groups as it creates a sense of security and reduces fear of crime during this festive season.

During the holiday season, crime tends to increase exponentially, particularly housebreaking and robberies of personal effects.

The Freedomland suburb in Windhoek launched its own Neighbourhood Watch, following an increase in the number of criminal activities in the area.

The launch was witnessed by top police brass and the local political leadership.
