Two hippos that reportedly migrated from Botswana's Okavango Delta to the Nyae Nyae Conservancy in Tsumkwe in 2017 have made a natural pond their home.

The Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism says although the fires in Etosha National Park remain relatively manageable, they still pose a risk to the park and surrounding areas due to unpredictable wind speeds.

Preliminary assessments show that 2,587 square kilometres have been affected by fire.

Giving an update on the wildfire that occurred in 2025 at Etosha National Park, Minister of Environment, Forestry and Tourism Indileni Daniel reported that 37% of the vegetation was lost, and 12 animals died in the blaze.
