Officials of the Bamunu Conservancy in the Zambezi Region fear residents of Muketela village in the Linyanti constituency will not have a good harvest as wildlife continues to destroy their crops.

It is reported that the community of Muketela faced attacks, with large numbers of elephants spotted recently.

The guards say that although this is a yearly occurrence, the number of elephants seems to have increased, causing even more damage than they've seen in previous years.

Some residents were seen harvesting what was left of the damaged maize fields as they feared that the elephants would make their way back into the fields.

Beritha Milunga said that should this go on, the only way to survive for most of the residents would be through government interventions.

The nbc News team was informed that the elephants returned to the same village on Thursday night and caused more damage.

Gerome Lutibezi, the chairperson of Bamunu Conservancy, says reports have been forwarded to the Ministry of Environment and Tourism for compensation to those who have been incurring losses.

Lutibezi also says the conservancy will request the ministry look into relocating the elephants, as they have become a problem in the area.
