TSUMEB COMMUNITY PROTESTS OVER YOUTH EXCLUSION IN BIOMASS PLANT JOBS

A group of aggrieved community members under the banner of the Tsumeb Aitsama Madan development project have taken to the streets, reportedly against the exclusion of youth in the employment of the BioMass Plant.

The project is currently under construction along the Tsumeb-Oshivelo road.

Tsumeb municipality Acting Chief Executive Officer Frans Enkali has warned residents against unlawfully blocking stormwater drainage points, as such actions contribute to the increase in flooding incidents currently experienced in the town.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah promises water for Kuvukiland residents

President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah assured residents of Kuvukiland, an informal settlement in Tsumeb, that they will be getting water soon, while the provision of electricity will come at a later stage.

Kuvukiland is divided into A, B and C, with A already supplying water and electricity. 

Tsumeb ranks among Namibia’s top 10 urban centers

Tsumeb town in the Oshikoto Region is among the top 10 towns in the country with the highest urban populations, according to the 2023 Namibia Population and Housing Census.

The town, which ranked last on the list of 10, had a population of 34,960 residents in 2023.
