The Oshana Regional Youth Forum has condemned what it described as “hooliganism” by individuals who stormed the National Youth Council (NYC) head offices in Windhoek on Friday. The incident came amidst rising tensions over governance issues within the council.
An uprising took place today at the National Youth Council (NYC) headquarters in the capital when some affiliate members stormed the office on Pasteur Street.
They expressed dissatisfaction with the appointment of the interim board by the Minister of Sport, Youth, and National Service, Agnes Tjongarero.
The Ministry of Sport, Youth, and National Service has appointed five interim board members for the National Youth Council following the removal of the previous one last week.
The interim board members are Curtis M. Andrew, Beverly Silas, Hendrik Theofilus, Victoria Itta, and Nghoshi Panduleni.
The National Youth Council (NYC) has defied a directive from the Minister of Youth not to proceed with the General Assembly.
On Thursday, Minister Agnes Tjingarero dissolved the Council's board members with immediate effect.
