Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare has called for unity and calm within the National Youth Council following a disrupted General Assembly over the weekend.
Dr. Ngurare, on his social media platforms, said that more work must be done to ensure the council is reconstituted within an agreed timeframe and in a peaceful environment.
The Prime Minister said significant preparatory work had been undertaken in recent months to enable the assembly to proceed but said the outcome did not end the way it should have.
He commended the leadership of the line ministry for efforts made to manage the process and urged continued engagement to stabilise the situation.
Ngurare described the NYC as a historic national platform rooted in the liberation struggle that brings together young people from diverse political, student, religious, and cultural backgrounds to advance youth empowerment and nation-building.
He warned against what he described as the misuse of youth platforms for short-term political gain.
The premier also called for adherence to the NYC Act and its requirements for affiliate participation and regional representation.
He said rules should be applied consistently rather than selectively.
Ngurare appealed for restraint and said disagreements should be managed through maturity and dialogue.
