National Youth Council urged to shun tribalism and regionalism

Swapo Party Member of Parliament in the National Council, Gerhard Shiimi, emphasised the vital role of the National Youth Council in addressing the needs of young people in Namibia. 

He urged the NYC leadership to diligently monitor the implementation of all programmes outlined in the budget for 2024–25. 

Shiimi said the National Youth Council should reject tribalism and regionalism, stating that such divisions are contrary to the principles of the "One Namibia, One Nation" slogan, which preaches unity of purpose and action. 

Much still needs to be done to capacitate young people - NYC

The Executive Chairperson of the National Youth Council says there is still much work to be done to capacitate young people and coordinate programmes and activities among various institutions, especially at the grassroot level.

Sharonice Busch made this call during an engagement with Omaheke regional leaders at Gobabis.

Busch stated that despite unemployment and other social and economic challenges, young people should take the lead in initiating projects with the assistance of the regional youth forum leaders.

NYC, NUST sign MOA

The National Youth Council (NYC) and the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) aimed at facilitating training programmes as well as providing internships and industrial attachments for students and trainees from both.
 

The MOA will allow the two parties to co-exist in the NYS' Rietfontein Training Centre, working on various projects to increase opportunities for youth and boost their readiness to partake in the Green Hydrogen Economic Opportunities.

NOYD elected youth representatives to address their needs at NY Conference

The Namibian Organization of Youth with Disabilities has elected youth representatives from each region to help them better address their needs during the National Youth Conference at Rietfontein.

Stereotyping, stigma, and discrimination are some of the challenges people with disabilities face on a daily basis.

It is for this reason that their representation in each region is of the utmost importance.

Like most youth, young people with disabilities have a lot to contribute to the nation's building, but they are mostly excluded.

National Youth Council leadership called to represent those who elect them into office

The Otjozondjupa Governor, James Uerikua has called on the National Youth Council leadership to represent those who elect them into office.

Uerikua was speaking at the 8th Representative Council meeting at Otjiwarongo.

The Representative Council is the second highest decision-making body of the National Youth Council when the General Assembly is not in session.

It comprises all delegates from regional youth forums and affiliated organizations.
