The Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform has lifted its ban on livestock movement in the Zambezi Region. Chief Veterinary Officer, Albertina Shilongo says the ban has been lifted, after nine-months of successful control and containment of a Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) outbreak. She says that the last confirmed FMD case in that region was on 4 November 2021. Shilongo says the current FMD Contingency Plan provides for the lifting of restrictions in affected areas if three-months pass without a new case. The Chief Veterinary Officer says vaccination against FMD will continue in the region to prevent future outbreaks. She has urged farmers to bring the livestock to the crush pens when Veterinary Services announce the vaccination of cattle against FMD.
