The City of Windhoek has expressed concern over the growing trend of electricity theft in the city. The City's public relations department in a media statement says illegal electricity connections are a serious criminal offence and is highly risky In July, six people from different households were arrested by the City Police for illegally reconnecting their electricity supply after it was disconnected due to non-payment. Reconnecting or restoring disconnected electricity or tampering with an electricity meter box to reconnect suspended electricity is unlawful, the City says those who are found guilty can be slapped with a fine of N$16 thousand. The City says it will continue its operations to find perpetrators and will open criminal cases against those who are found with illegal electricity connections.
