City of Windhoek settles NamPower debt - Amupanda

The City of Windhoek today announced settling more than N$268 million in outstanding debt to the national electricity utility, NamPower. Mayor Job Amupanda announced this and promised to settle the city's N$500 million debt to NamWater by 15 March. He noted that the Government must set an example to the public at large, noting that in turn, the City would not hesitate to act against those not honouring their commitments to it. The City last week disconnected electricity to several Government ministries and agencies as they were in arrears. Amid the challenge of paying an average monthly bill of N$130 million to NamPower, Amupanda said, the City has, over the past year, provided free water to residents in the informal settlements, amounting to a cost of about N$6 million a month, since the start of the pandemic.
