Chief executive officer (CEO) of the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN), Emilia Nghikembua has asked the Parliamentary Standing Committee on ICT to push for the finalisation of the cybersecurity bills which are before Parliament. Nghikembua also called for the amendment of the 2009 Communications Act. One of the challenges brought under the attention of the lawmakers is the money owed to CRAN by MTC and TN Mobile, the two corporates owe the communications authority a combined sum of N$300 million in levies, interests and penalties. The parliamentary standing committee has said that the amount owed is worrisome and that something must be done. Nghikembua explained that the matter is before the courts.
