The World Food Programme (WFP) has noted that Namibia's humanitarian and food security situation improved in 2026.
This is despite recurring climate and shock-related hazards, including floods, devastating droughts, and pest infestations.
The information is contained in the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification analysis for July-September 2025, with projections through June 2026.
The assessment estimates 456,000 people in need, down from 1.15 million over the same period last year.
The improvement is attributed to the combined effects of good rainfall and the WFP's response to the El Niño-induced drought through complementary nutrition-sensitive food assistance, government-led drought relief interventions, and contributions from development partners.
The assessment indicates that humanitarian aid assisted 11,800 people in February 2026.
However, the WFP Namibia requires about N$867 million until August 2026 to address urgent food insecurity.
