Five pedestrians were among those killed in car crashes over the past long weekend. In Mariental, Hardap Region, a nine-year-old girl died in the Mariental State Hospital after a 50-year-old man drove over her with a Toyota Land Cruiser. According to the Police crime report, the deceased, her mother, and several other people were collecting beans in the field of the suspect without his consent. The suspect spotted and chased them with his motor vehicle, in the process the deceased fell and the vehicle drove over her causing internal injuries. In Okuryangava, Windhoek, a 1-year and 10-month-old toddler died after she was run over by a Toyota Prado. It is alleged that the victim was under the vehicle and she died upon arrival at Intermediate State Hospital. Two people were killed in accidents of vehicles they were operating, while six drivers were arrested for driving while under the influence of alcohol and reckless or negligent driving.
