Omaheke Governor, Pijoo Nganate on Wednesday said the regional council officially opening for the year on Wednesday should also mean communication lines between the electorate and their elected leaders have opened. The Omaheke Regional Council held its official opening for 2021 at Gobabis on Wednesday. Nganate said the opening of regional and constituency offices should not be seen as a mere “funfair” for councillors. “My expectations for councillors now that the council has officially opened for business for 2021 is that they go back to their respective constituencies and revisit all the promises they made to their constituents. They should then align those promises with the national goals of our government and should also acquaint themselves with the Harambee Prosperity Plan,” he said. The Governor further added that he expects the councillors to set time frames for when they will deliver on these promises, adding that they should adopt the motto of “nothing for the community without the community.” Nganate urged the regional constituency leaders to reach out to the inhabitants of their respective constituencies regularly as “only the community members know what is best for themselves.” The official opening creates a platform for the regional leadership to set the council’s direction for the year. -NAMPA
