Health Minister revises measures to disrupt the spread of COVID-19

The Health and Social Services Minister Dr Kalumbi Shangula said the COVID-19 situation in Namibia has worsened and the second wave has exceeded the first wave. The new measures will start tonight and will be in place for 21 days until 3 February. Shangula said the number of people allowed at public gatherings is kept at 50 people, the event must not exceed two hours and registers of attendees must be maintained. All health measures must be followed. The wearing of masks is compulsory. The curfew will be maintained from 21h00 to 04h00. The restrictions on the sale of alcohol remain, which is from 09h00 to 20h00 from Mondays to Saturdays. No sale of alcohol on Sundays and public holidays is allowed. Non-urgent medical procedures are postponed and hospital visitations must not exceed 10 mins. On the matter of the reopening of schools, teachers will be back at schools on 14 January and learners will return to schools on 26 January. The Minister of Health and Social Services announced this at a media briefing at State House today.
