NaCC launches National Competition Policy

The Namibian Competition Commission (NaCC) has launched a policy that will help companies compete fairly. Executive Director in the Ministry of Industrialisation and Trade, Sikongo Haihambo says the National Competition Policy (NCP) will ensure that the competition law is based on a set of objectives. He says the Government decided to adopt the policy, which will guide further development of competition law. Haihambo says a competition policy will ensure that rules are applied to make businesses and companies compete fairly with each other. The ED further called on NaCC to find innovative solutions for an inclusive economy. The key principles of the policy include supporting and enhancing national laws, developmental merger control, market inquiries, and price monitoring. It provides for reviews of policies and regulations that restrict competition in the Namibian economy and the implementation of competitive neutrality. The NCP further develops co-ordinating mechanisms to ensure efficient and optimal co-operation among regulators and the competition commission.
