Namibia Food and Allied Workers Union (NAFAU), representing employees has appealed to the Government to intervene on behalf of 177 Safari Hotel employees being retrenched. This after the hotel applied for a relief package to avert the retrenchment and proposed to Government to utilise its conference facilities, but without success. Both the Ministries of Industrialisation, Trade and SME Development as well as that of Finance, denied having received such communication from the hotel management, which is also in the NBC possession. Secretary to Cabinet, George Simmata says the Government is aware of various facilities, but the decisions were taken not to utilise them, in view of the health and safety concerns.
