NAMPOL arrests two South African nationals at the Grootfontein Army Base

The Namibian Police (NAMPOL) says it recently arrested two South African nationals at the Grootfontein Army Base. NAMPOL Otjozondjupa Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Naukalemo Andreas says the two suspects were found photographing military equipment inside the base. He told NAMPA in an interview yesterday that the suspects are a South African couple, who had claimed to be tourists. Andreas says 60-year-old Walter Dalton and his 58-year-old wife Cornelia Dalton were charged in the Grootfontein Magistrate's Court on Friday and granted bail of N$5 000 each. The senior police officer says it remains unclear how the couple entered the heavily protected military base with their vehicle or who authorised them to photograph inside. He says that they were charged with trespassing as investigations continue. Naukalemo says the couple is expected in the same court today, possibly for trial and sentencing. Police investigation continues.
