The nursery of the Ministry of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism at Rundu is a hit among local and visiting clients.
With planting season in full swing, the ministry is expecting an influx of plant buyers.
The nursery at the Rundu District Forestry Office is every plant lover's dream this time of the year.
Various buyers come from all over to take advantage of the many plant species available here.
"We do not market, so to speak, but we are just known. Maybe because of the diverse plants that we have. All our clients get what they want from our nursery. We have a number of diverse plants that everybody in society needs. Farmers, gardeners, landscapers, and fruit tree planters. All of them get what they want from our nursery, so we by nature become popular," said Chief Forester Jonas Mwiikinghi.
To encourage Namibians to plant more trees, the ministry sells the plants at affordable rates.
These range from fruit, shade, and indigenous trees to even exotic and ornamental plants.
"This time is the peak of selling. We are making money this time from September up to February. We are at a peak. It's the highest. We can even sell up to 5000 - 6000 seedlings per month."
The ministry has its own orchids, which it uses for its seed stock production.
"We have quite a number of them. We have the main one for our mango seed production, which is based on the Shadikongoro green scheme. Quite a lot of mangoes, and if you go there now, it's fruiting, and we are expecting a bumper harvest of the mango fruits this year."
The chief forester has invited locals for a treat in December.
