NEF to launch urgent application to have certain state of emergency regulations declared null and void

The Namibia Employers Federation (NEF) has given notice of its intention to launch an urgent application, to have certain provisions of the state of emergency be declared null and void. The regulations include a ban on the retrenchments until 28 days after the lockdown and full remuneration of employees' salaries for the months of March and April. Other provisions include prohibiting employers from forcing employees to take annual leave or unpaid leave during the state of emergency. In a notice of motion to the High Court, NEF says any party intending to oppose this application is given three days to notify its lawyers from the date of service of this application. If no notice of intention to oppose is given, the application will be moved on 29 May 2020.
