Government has broken its silence on the new ID cards that have sparked a public debate in recent weeks. The planned new ID cards will come with multiple benefits to Namibians, such as using it as a travel document to neighbouring countries, making border crossing less complicated. Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security Minister, Dr Albert Kawana explained the advantages of the new cards in the National Assembly, as he responded to a question from PDM MP Nico Smit.
