POLICE BRIEFING

Deputy Inspector General of Operations, Major General Joseph Shikongo says the increase in human trafficking and the recent shutdown of businesses by certain members of the public topped the list of concerns for the police over Easter. NAMPOL is warning members of the public who are going around shutting down businesses to stop doing that, saying it’s not their mandate to take the law into their own hands. Shikongo says what some of these people are doing is tantamount to anarchy, chaos and lawlessness. A police investigation discovered that 26 Namibian women have so far left the country through trucks or buses to some neighbouring countries like South Africa, from where they would transit to the Middle East. Major General Shikongo said it was discovered after questioning several victims who managed to escape, that the whereabouts of 17 of the 26 women are unknown.
