Police officer arrested for allegedly threatening IPC members in Ongenga

A police officer was arrested for allegedly using vulgar language and firing shots to threaten members of Independent Patriots for Change (IPC) at Oonawa cuca-shops in the Ongenga constituency of the Ohangwena Region. This incident happened last weekend where IPC members allegedly made a stop to drop off some of their members before driving back to their destinations after a campaign. The 56-year-old police officer, who was not in uniform at the time, allegedly approached one member of the IPC and asked him what they were looking for. The officer allegedly insulted the members and spat on them. He then allegedly collected a gun and started firing shots in the air, telling IPC members to leave because he does not want to see their flag. Inspector General of the Namibia Police Lieutenant General Sebastian Ndeitunga says disciplinary measures in accordance with the police code of conduct were taken against the accused officer. He was arrested, but released on bail and investigations into the matter has started. Ndeitunga advised police officers to be neutral, impartial and objective in carrying out their duties of protecting all citizens irrespective of their political affiliation.
