The seven people who died instantly on Sunday after the vehicle they were travelling in collided with a truck on the Otjiwarongo-Otavi road, have been identified. The Namibian Police Force’s Otjozondjupa Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Naukalemo Andreas in an interview with Nampa on Monday said the deceased were identified by relatives at Otjiwarongo. The driver of the seven-seater vehicle was identified as the 33-year-old Andreas Kauluma. The passengers were 37-year-old Festus Neshuku and his five-year-old son, Petrus Neshuku; Ezimbi Thomas, 27; Hileni Shipahu, 43; Uulofu Angondo, 31; and 45-year-old Stefanus Petrus Ausiku. “They died instantly due to the severe impact of the accident,” said Andreas. The police officer explained that the Scania truck and seven-seater vehicle collided head-on around 14h00 on Sunday, approximately 52 kilometres north of Otjiwarongo. The seven-seater with Walvis Bay registration was travelling from the direction of Otavi, while the truck was headed in the opposite direction. The 37-year-old truck driver and his co-driver aged 46 escaped the accident unhurt. It is alleged that the accident occurred when Kauluma attempted to overtake another vehicle and collided with the oncoming truck. Police investigations continue.
