STRIKE VOTE | A total of 42 216 civil servants are in favour of a strike while 1 232 have voted against it. This comes after the government and bargaining unions reached a deadlock over salary increments and benefits, and a certificate of unresolved dispute was issued. Results released by the National Verification Center earlier today indicate that 43 228 votes were counted in all the 14 regions of the country. 346 ballot papers were spoiled or rejected, according to the National Returning Officer Thomas Niilonga. The strike will only start at a yet-to-be-announced date. Teachers who were given two days off to exercise their right to vote for or against the industrial action are expected back at work tomorrow, as schools resume normal hours again.
