Three men arrested on robbery, impersonating of a police officer and kidnapping at Omaruru

Three men were arrested on charges of robbery, impersonating of a police officer and kidnapping at Omaruru in the Erongo Region. According to a police report, the suspects approached a 60-year-old man in Omaruru's Ozondje suburb on Wednesday, requesting for assistance with translations. The complainant, a retired Nampower employee, agreed to assist and accompanied the suspect to the venue where the business deal was to take place. While the victim was trying to assist, three male suspects appeared in a silver VW Polo with a fake registration number and the first two suspects who were with the victim disappeared, leaving behind a small bag. The three suspects claimed that they are police officers and searched the bag in which they found fake diamonds. The fake officers ordered the victim to give them N$80 000.00 for them to destroy the docket and release him, but the victim informed them he only had N$ 50 000.00 at the bank. The victim reported the matter to the Police after he was dropped off and the getaway vehicle with the three suspects was intercepted at Kalkveld. The N$50 000.00 cash was found hidden in the vehicle and the vehicle was impounded. Three different number plates were also found in the getaway vehicle. The other two suspects are still at large. Investigations continue.
