TransNamib management under investigation for allegedly violating state of emergency regulations

The Namibian Police (NAMPOL) are investigating the top management of TransNamib for alleged violating the state of emergency regulations after they were found with alcohol on their Desert Express passenger train on their way to a retreat at Luderitz in the //Kharas Region. According to NAMPOL, it remains unclear if the nine executives bought the alcohol before travelling to Luderitz. NAMPOL spokesperson Deputy Commissioner, Kauna Shikwambi, confirmed that they confiscated the alcohol in Mariental after a tip-off and investigations are underway to determine the origin of the alcohol. The executives claimed that the liquor was already on the train even before the state of emergency regulations. Approached for comment, TransNamib Chief Executive Officer, Johny Smith, declined to comment on the alcohol bust, saying the managers travelled to Luderitz for a top management meeting to restructure the company. Smith could also not confirm or deny if they have a valid liquor license for the Dessert Express passenger train. The value of alcohol remains unknown.
