The City of Windhoek (CoW) is experiencing water supply interruption from bulk supplier, NamWater, due to damages to the main water supply pipeline between Okahandja and Windhoek. According to NamWater, the pipeline suffered damages on Thursday night and details on the extent of the damage and repair timeframe will only be available after the water has been drained from the pipeline and the site stabilized to gain access to the damaged line. Water levels in the City’s reservoirs are currently at reasonable levels, ranging between 60% and 75% on average. CoW indicated that it is busy activating the borehole scheme to augment the current shortfall of water supply from NamWater, whereas the reclamation Plant (WINGOC) is also producing at full capacity. The CoW has assured residents that it is doing all it can to avert any possible water interruptions. In the unlikely event of water supply from NamWater not being restored by the weekend, reservoir levels may reach critically low levels, hence residents are requested to use water sparingly. Water discolouration may occur once reservoir levels drop significantly and settle residue comes into suspension. However, the City assured residents that it will be monitoring the water quality at all times and that water quality will not be compromised. Residents from Elisenheim will receive water until the reservoir supplying the area runs dry. However, the areas around Brakwater will most certainly experience water interruptions since they are directly supplied from the NamWater pipeline.
