NamWater has started attending to the Okakarara Constituency's water crisis regarding the build-up of calcium and magnesium minerals in their water.

The Okakarara Constituency Councillor Ramana Mutjavikua stated that the build-up of calcium and magnesium minerals in the water has negatively affected the town's operations.

The situation has forced the council to estimate the residents' water bills due to inaccurate meter readings caused by the limescale.

NamWater has since started with the installation of a temporary system, which will lessen the lime in the water.

NamWater Operations Manager at Brandberg Area, George Diergaardt said the Seaquest dozing system basically dozes chemicals into the water that keeps the lime in suspension which means it doesn't settle in your pipes and then obviously the infrastructure will be protected against blockages and other damage that might occur.

NamWater is working towards a permanent solution, that will kick in once funds are available.

Installations are already completed in Otjituuo, Okamatapati, Okondjatu and Coblenz and it comes at a cost to the residents.

"We cannot really overcharge people, water is a necessity in life, it is not like electricity you can always live with it but water is essential for life that is why we will always try to make it as affordable as possible for the residents of the country."
