With independence comes the responsibility to develop the country and better the lives of the community in which one lives.
The late Hendri Greeff, who owned the C'est Si Bon and Casa Forno restaurants and accommodation facilities at Otjiwarongo, is one of those who looked after his community.
Affectionately known as "Big H" by the community of Otjiwarongo, the late Greeff was the first person to own a restaurant in the town in 2008.
He created more jobs for the locals as the business expanded, particularly the accommodation facility, which now boasts 86 rooms with three conference rooms.
Greef, however, died in 2021 after battling COVID-19, leaving the business in the hands of his wife, Ronelle.
"We do try to keep the standards; we do try to keep everything that he left behind; he always had very high standards; we do the best that we can; he trained all of us; I know how he thought; I know how he did business; I know how he treated his suppliers; and I try to keep it up."
The late Greeff was also chairman of the Otjiwarongo Neighborhood Watch and the Old Age Home.
"He had everyone close to him; he helped where he could, even if he was in no position to do so; he would still help, and he also had an open hand towards the community. He believed that 'business-wise, you support the people in the community because the community also supports you back'."
The late Greeff worked closely with Otjozondjupa Governor James Uerikua and NamPol's Deputy Commissioner Moses Khairabeb.
