The Council of Churches in Namibia,  the Kavango Christian Churches in Action, and the Namibia Marriage Council will host an interdenominational 33rd Independence Anniversary celebration day on the 2nd of April in Rundu.

The Chairperson of the Committee, Rachel Nathaniel-Koch reiterated the role churches played during the liberation struggle.

"The purpose of this program or this event is to thank God for our beautiful nation Namibia. To thank God for the peace of Namibia, for 33 years we had peace, and for 33 years we have heard only goodness in our nation. Nothing to complain about, except for here and there, but you know, God has looked after us here in Namibia and the church has looked at the role that the church has played during the struggle, we felt that no the church must rise again and stand together with the government and rise as the body of Christ to celebrate the independence of Namibia."

During the celebration, churches will also highlight social challenges such as gender-based violence, abortion, high unemployment rate Namibia is facing.

The Founder and Executive Director of Namibia Marriage Council, Paulus Hawanga pointed out that it was by God's grace that Namibia gained independence.

"We are expecting to hear testimonies, testimonies from our veterans who were in the liberation struggle, those who were also servants of God while there were on the battlefields. They are also going to share with us their testimonies of how they participated in the struggle and how they came to be active now in the work of God."

"Our aim is to come together and to celebrate and to show also our government that the Churches are with them. This is what we want."
