The Vice Chancellor of the University of Namibia (UNAM), Professor Kenneth Matengu, wants the Alumni Association to provide scholarships to deserving students and improve campus facilities.

Professor Matengu said this during the launch of the UNAM Alumni Southern Chapter at Keetmanshoop in the ||Kharas Region.

The UNAM Southern Campus was recently inaugurated, and Professor Matengu says that the establishment of the Southern Chapter came at the right time as the university continues to expand its footprint in the region.

"By investing in our university, we are investing in our own future. The more we give, the more we can improve the quality of education and research at our university, and the more we can attract the best and brightest students and faculty from around the world. This means we must also give to activities that enhance student well-being, such as our sports clubs and societies. These things build people's character and shape their future habits."

All graduates of UNAM can become members of the Alumni Association, which was formed on the principles of volunteerism.

"Our wish is that alumni render services to society guided by social entrepreneurship under the auspices of the university from wherever they are," said Happy Muleka, executive of UNAM Alumni.

Susan Farmer was elected chairperson of the Southern Chapter. "We look forward to being of service to our alumni, and we would like to invite all our former and current UNAM students to come and join the movement."

The event also served as a networking platform for students to engage and learn from each other's experiences.
