A Swedish couple who is in Namibia on vacation has donated food items and toiletries for distribution among vulnerable households at Keetmanshoop's |Gereres Informal Settlement.
The couple decided to lend a helping hand after witnessing the plight of informal settlers living close to the B1 highway, on which they were travelling.
The Police Women Network, in conjunction with officials from the Keetmanshoop Municipality, will identify specific beneficiaries for distribution.
"Our office was approached yesterday by tourists, Swedish tourists, and they passed the B1 whereby they saw |Gereres location and the plight of the people residing in the location. They approached our office with a request to donate food parcels, or whatever might be needed. Upon that request, I took the two tourists, a couple indeed, so I took them to the municipality, whereby I talked to Mrs. Max, and they were given a list of items that perhaps they could provide. As you can see there, they bought food parcels, and they came and dropped the things off with us today," narrated Warrant Officer Chris Hangula who assisted the couple.
Inspector Jeanette |Goagoses of the Police Women Network, which will oversee the donation's distribution, had this to say: "Let's assist those who can benefit in this round, and we then pray and hope for another donor or Good Samaritan to come up with the same gesture again."
|Goagoses expressed the community's gratitude to the Swedish couple for their generosity.
