The principal of Diaz Primary School at Luderitz, Jacqueline Rukamba, is happy with the government's school feeding programme, which covers 80% of all pre-primary and primary schools in the country.

Speaking to nbc News at Luderitz, Jacqueline Rukamba says there has been an improvement in learners' academic performance as a result of the daily meals they receive.

"I would really like to thank our government for the school feeding programme that they have installed. Our learners that are here at Diaz Primary School are coming from worse situations, you know, social and economic situations. That is why we really appreciate our government's school feeding programme, and they are really delivering. Even last week, we also received another 20 bags of maize blend that came from the government, and that really impacts the health of our learners because some children are really malnourished."

A number of companies and individuals at Luderitz also contribute to the school feeding programme by regularly donating fish, flour, and sugar to ensure that all children remain in school.

Recently, the Luderitz Rotary Club handed over bakery equipment to the Diaz Primary School.

Since its inception in 1991, the school feeding programme has quadrupled in size to reach over 300,000 learners in 14,000 schools.
