Members of the Caprivi Concerned Group staged a demonstration at Katima Mulilo, calling for the release of five members of the UDP who were arrested at Kaliyangile Village.
The United Democratic Party (UDP), representing people from the Zambezi who are advocating for the secession of the region, was banned in 2006 from holding meetings in Namibia.
Five UDP members who are in custody are Benjamin Kubona, Harris Mushe, Lister Mubonda, Ben Kumpoma, and Derick Ziambo.
They were arrested for conducting an illegal meeting on April 25.
The group's secretary for information, Event Linyando, said a N$10,000 bail is too high.
"The bail of N$10,000 each for persons who are unemployed, who did not damage any property, and who actually never held a public meeting in the sense of relevant law, is a record high and in effect a denial of bail. We humbly request that you check the facts of the case and consider exercising your power in terms of Section 6(b) of the Criminal Procedure Act to stop the prosecution so that they can be released immediately."
The Control Prosecutor, Brona Mukoya, received the partition.
"I've received the petition, and I'm going to make sure it is channeled to the right people; we are going to give it the attention it deserves at the Office of the Prosecutor General."
The five remain in custody until they pay bail, and the matter has been remanded to the 18th of July.
Recently, the police in Zambezi also reminded the public that the United Democratic Party is still banned from holding meetings in Namibia and warned residents in Zambezi Region not to organize or attend UDP meetings.
