In 2022, NSSU team members and parents were left stranded after a trip to Potchefstroom, South Africa where they were supposed to participate in the COSSASA Athletics. They however realised the event was not taking place after travelling to South Africa by bus and arriving to an empty stadium. Both the COSSASA Athletics and the Ball Games have been seen as highlights of Schools Sport in the Southern African region.

The Championships were also seen as a breeding ground for some top athletes who have go on to become household names. Speaking to Nbc Sport on the sidelines of the NSSU Athletics National Championships which took place over the weekend at the Independence Stadium in Windhoek, the NSSU National Coordinator Roger Kambatuku said after the events of last year, they have put a hold on any COSSASA participation this year.

Kambatuku also hinted at future participation as he see COSSASA as the perfect platform to expose young sportsmen and women.

The last COSSASA event Namibia competed in was the Athletics Championship is Eswathini where sprint sensations Beatrice Masilingi and Christine Mboma launched their careers
