The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Natural Resources is expected to hold public consultations on the motion regarding the devastating effect of the growing seal population on the sustainability of fish stocks.
It is estimated there are roughly one million seals all along the Namibian coastline.
The abundance of fish stock lures many seal colonies to breed in Namibian waters, which poses a threat to an ever-declining fish population.
The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Natural Resources will thus engage stakeholders to find a solution to the growing seal population.
The clubbing of seal pups begins from July to November annually.
After consultations with various stakeholders, the committee will report back to Parliament on its findings and recommendations.
