A 30-year-old man survived a crocodile attack, though he lost a leg in the Zambezi Region.

Sitamwela Mualuka was approaching the river bank, returning from fishing in the Linyanti River at Maunga.

A senior nurse at the Katima State Hospital, where the victim is receiving treatment, says Mualuka was lucky to receive medical treatment as soon as he did after the attack.

Mualuka, an unemployed Zambian national, has lived in Namibia for many years, fishing for his livelihood.

Contacted for comment, Romeo Muyunda, spokesperson in the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, states that the ministry's policy does not currently make provision for compensation to a foreign national.
