Namibia has thrown its weight behind Saudi Arabia's bid to host the 2030 World Expo.

Saudi Arabia's Advisor to the Royal Court, Ahmed bin Abdulaziz Kattan, and his delegation paid a courtesy call on President Hage Geingob at State House.

Saudi Arabia was the first of four countries that lobbied for Namibia's support after it submitted its bid to host the 2030 World Expo in Riyadh.

Namibia's stated position was to first analyse the socio-economic benefits before publicly announcing its support for any of the bidding countries, which are South Korea, Italy, and Ukraine.

State House Press Secretary Alfredo Hengari explains the considerations taken for Namibia to support Saudi Arabia and not South Korea.

Saudi Arabia plans to host the Expo from October 1st, 2030, until March 31st, 2031, if elected during the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) member states in November this year.

The voting is conducted through the principle of one country, one vote.
