Vice President Nangolo Mbumba also laid a wreath at the grave of the late Omukwaniilwa GwaNdonga Shikongo Shakalulu at Omandongo Village in the Oshikoto Region.

Shakalulu died in 1874.

According to Mbumba, Shakalulu is widely recognised as someone who introduced Christianity to the northern region.

He was a revered warrior, a traditional leader, and a pioneer in promoting literacy among the people.

Many of the developments witnessed today can be traced back to his efforts to ensure that his community gained knowledge and understanding of modern issues, he added.

Mbumba, therefore, takes pride in the history established by Shakalulu and specifically commended the Onayena community for their commitment to maintaining and safeguarding the final resting place of the late Shakalulu.
