Zimbabwean veteran journalist Hopewell Chinono has urged all Zimbabweans in the diaspora to go back home and participate in the national elections slated for August 23.

Chinono is attending the Regional Conference on Information and Communication Rights in Africa in Windhoek.

Election fever is already running high in Zimbabwe, with political parties on the campaign trail. In terms of the country's previous electoral law, eligible voters in the diaspora could cast their votes from anywhere.

However, the law has been changed and voters can only vote at home; therefore, the call by the veteran journalist to Zimbabweans outside the country to return and vote in elections

Hopewell Chinono, in an interview with nbc News, said it is important for all Zimbabweans to add their voice by exercising their democratic rights.
