In the Kavango East Region, 160 young people are participating in a one-week business training programme held at the Frans Dimbare Youth Skills Training Centre in the Mukwe Constituency.
The training serves as a crucial stepping stone in the ongoing efforts to combat high youth unemployment.
The Kavango East Regional Council has organised a business training programme aimed at equipping and empowering youth with essential tools and strategies to foster entrepreneurial thinking.
The unemployment rate in Kavango East is recorded at more than 60%.
"The core reason of this conference is to impart knowledge; this conference is to engage the youth so that they can realise their God-given potential to ask themselves if God has blessed me with this talent, how do I then put this talent to use for my own benefit in terms of your own employment creation as well as to also create employment for other youth members?" said Governor Bonifatius Wakudumo.
Wakudumo acknowledges that there have been numerous youth workshops and training programmes in the region, but he expresses hopes that this particular training will yield positive outcomes.
The training is made possible through the sponsorship of Merlus Fishing, NAMDIA, Hollard Namibia, and Old Mutual. Hollard Namibia's Strategic Executive for Compliance, Sam Kauapirurua, also addressed the young people.
"Corporate Namibia is sitting with resources; the guys have funds. Companies have funds, and they want to give the funds, but nobody is coming forward; everybody wants to open a kambashu and a cucashop, buy a taxi; that's what everybody wants to do. Nobody wants to come up with ideas that are going to redefine the face of our country, our village, or our immediate surroundings. So I want to challenge you to get to know corporate Namibia and understand what kind of business ideas and projects companies want to fund. The funds are sitting there."
The nbc News team spoke to some of the youth in attendance, and this was their assessment of the training.
