The Minister of Education, Arts, and Culture, Anna Nghipondoka, has vowed to resolve the challenges encountered by parents during the school registration process.
She emphasised that it is unacceptable that parents continue to face such difficulties, particularly while facing harsh weather conditions.
Nghipondoka was responding to a question by RP MP Herlinde Tjiveze regarding the challenges faced by parents in securing school placements for their children in grades zero and one.
"There is a problem with the enrollment of grades 0 and 1. People have been staying overnight since Friday, and they are complaining because it's also cold. Is there no way that you can make online applications?" Tjiveze asked.
The Education Minister also provided insight into the registration procedures.
"In the Ministry of Education, we've got procedures on how to apply, and we do it very early. That's why we started in early June. What happened specifically in Erongo was that the parents were informed of the date on which to come and register for a specific grade. Grade zero on this date, grade one on this date—those two are actually the two grades where we have shortages of space, and the parents know about that. So when you tell them to come on the 13th, they come on the 11th, in order for them to cue up to be number one."
