The proposal to proclaim Rosh Pinah a town is still ongoing.
Despite this, Oranjemund Constituency Councillor Lazarus Nangolo commended Government ministries and agencies for opening offices to provide much-needed services to the mining community.
The mining town of Rosh Pinah is situated in southern Namibia and is home to two mines.
Zinc and lead have been mined in the area since the mines opened 54 years ago.
Rosh Pinah forms part of the Oranjemund political constituency, of which Nangolo is a Regional Councillor.
He says the mining town has contributed immensely to the country's economy and has been one of a few internationally renowned towns in terms of mining.
"We are thirsty as a community of Rosh Pinah to have an immediate proclamation so that both public and private can be able to give services to the community, can be able to create more employment, as well as ensure that the people that are owning property can also enjoy the benefit of owning property."
Nangolo informed nbc News that a meeting will soon take place between the mining companies, the government, and the ||Kharas Regional Council where the town's sustainability survey will be presented.
This is after the stakeholders availed themselves of a combined budget of N$1.2 million for consultants to conduct the survey.
"I am going to attend the final presentation meeting because the tender has been awarded to Stutandhoff, and they will present it to us now on the way forward on the proclamation of Rosh Pinah. ||Karas Regional Council spent 40%, Rosh Pinah Zinc covered 30%, and Scorpion Zinc covered 30%, and these are the results that we are going to be given."
Alexander Maasdorp is Rosh Pinah's Manager.
He says the mining town is ready to accommodate investors to diversify its economy.
"We are very grateful that we are finally receiving all these state-owned enterprises and ministries coming to Rosh Pinah and that we can have the opportunity to host them; it's an invitation to any of the other stakeholders to come and visit once you experience and once you see Rosh Pinah, I am sure they will come back and do more of that in town because for us in Rosh Pinah sometimes you also think people have forgotten about you for being so far in the South."
Rosh Pinah Zinc Corporation and Skorpion Zinc have the biggest mining concessions in the town. and currently produces zinc and lead sulphide concentrates containing minor amounts of copper, silver, and gold.
