Earning too low an income can present a variety of problems for families, with access to health care being the most complex and prevalent.

38-year-old Olga Ngola worked as a domestic worker until an interstitial lung disease robbed her family of an income and subjected her to an oxygen machine.

Ngola was diagnosed with interstitial lung disease almost four years ago.

The disease describes a large group of disorders, most of which cause progressive scarring of the lungs and eventually affect one's ability to breathe.

Ngola, a mother of four, lost her job as a domestic worker.

Following her loss of income, she currently stays with her sister in Greenwell Matongo in a tiny shack, where she sleeps on the floor.

Rent and their monthly expenses fall on the shoulders of Ngola's younger sister, Justina Abraham, who sells kapana and has nine children in her care.

This means Abraham must literally fit 15 people into her budget, including her sister.
